AMA on same-sex marriage: a body of lies

Once upon a time, doctors were champions of science, using their knowledge to promulgate the scientific truths about health, biology, and humanity. But that time has passed.

As has recently become clear, it’s not just large corporate entities, such as Qantas, ANZ or Google, who have aggressively sided with the LGBTI lobby. Australia’s largest medical organisation has been revealed to be a major champion of the cause, even at the price of suppressing factual evidence.

In late May of this year, the Australian Medical Association released its ‘Position Statement on Marriage Equality’, without consultation with, or the approval of its members or that of the outlying medical community. A critique of AMA statement from senior doctors presents a frightening truth, that the peak medical body ignored evidence in order to present an ideological viewpoint:

Of several examples, the most egregious is the assertion that there is no peer-reviewed evidence of “poorer health or psychosocial outcomes” for children raised in same-sex parented families. That is a politically potent claim and unequivocally false. We reference peer-reviewed articles that do find poorer outcomes for children raised by same-sex couples, and we also show that the AMA was aware of this evidence.

In other words, the AMA statement knowingly misled the Australian public.

Dr Chris Middleton, former president of the Tasmanian branch of the organisation, confirmed that the AMA is indubitably guilty of hiding material in order to accommodate progressive ideology. Along with five other AMA members, Dr Middleton drew up a 15-page document, detailing some of the greatest aberrations within the Position Statement. The Herald Sun recounts:

Dr Middleton’s report was scathing of the AMA for its “demonstrably false” claim that children raised by gay parents do not suffer poorer psychological health than children who are raised by their biological mother and father...

“Decades of research have confirmed that children do best, on average, when raised by their married biological mother and father,” the report said.

“By denying publicly that there is any such evidence of detriment to children, while admitting privately that there is, the AMA has misled the public on a crucial aspect of the marriage debate and must be held to account.”...

Dr Middleton said the AMA also provided “feeble” evidence for its assertion that legalising same-sex marriage would improve the health of gay people and give them better access to healthcare...

Like so many other organisations, the AMA has turned away from its foundational purpose and worked against the silent majority. A once credible institution, it has now established itself as a leader of the progressive movement, intent on eradicating established facts in the name of ‘acceptance’. Mind you, as a leader in the world of science and medicine, this association was created to uphold these very facts. In the words of Dr Middleton:

“The position statement has very little to say about medicine and was little more than a politically motivated, ideologically-driven opinion piece which is dressed up as evidence-based health policy.”

Acting in direct disregard of the silent majority and the facts, large entities are actively enabling the LGBTI lobby, even if it means lying to us and our fellow Australians. Those who knowingly lie to the Australian public render themselves as an enemy to the people. Australians deserve to know the truth – and want the truth.

It’s time that we take a stand and let our voices be heard above the rubbish promulgated by the AMA, and any other entity that dares to lie to the Australian public.
