Due to the larger promiscuity among homosexuals, there is a greater frequency of transmitted sexual diseases. In addition, the nature of the sexual activity in which gay men engage causes physical harm involving the anus, mouth and genitalia. Lesbians are also at higher risk for STIs and other health problems than heterosexuals. However, the health consequences of lesbianism are less well documented than for male homosexuals.
