Labor promises LGBTI Discrimination Commissioner

As part of its election promises, Labor announced that it will, if elected, appoint an LGBTI discrimination commissioner to the Australian Human Rights Commission. Senator Penny Wong said the full-time, dedicated commissioner “will address structural discrimination, work towards ensuring our schools, workplaces and communities are free from discrimination, continuing Labor's tradition of removing discrimination and creating a more fair, more equal Australia." This LGBTI discrimination commissioner would be in addition to the sex discrimination commissioner whose jurisdiction includes discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
