Marriage Alliance has made our own submission to the expert panel headed by former Attorney-General Philip Ruddock on the issue of religious freedom. In the wake of the same-sex marriage vote, it is vital that our religious freedoms remain intact.
That is why we emphasized to the expert panel that freedom of thought, conscience, religion, and belief constitute a package of human rights, and that these rights are afforded to all people, not just the clergy and religious organisations.
We declared that religious freedom should not be spoken of in terms of “exemptions.”
And, most importantly, we called on them to uphold the rights of the nearly 5 million Australians who voted for man-woman marriage in the postal plebiscite.
